Tyler Guthrie has been the band director for the Huntley band program since the fall of 2024. Mr. Guthrie also worked with the HHS Marching Band as the assistant marching band director from 2021 until 2024 when he stepped into the band director role. Prior to becoming the band director, Mr. Guthrie worked as one of the band directors at Holmes Middle School in Wheeling, IL from 2019 to 2024.
Mr. Guthrie earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Western Illinois University, graduating in December 2018. During his time at WIU, he performed with numerous university ensembles, including the Jazz Band, Jazz Studio Orchestra, Orchestra, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Trombone Studio, and Pep Band. As a member of the Marching Leathernecks, he served as Drum Major during his senior year. He continued his education by earning a Master of Music Education degree from VanderCook College of Music in July 2023.
Outside of the classroom, Mr. Guthrie remains an active performer throughout the Chicago area. He has performed with the Palatine Concert Band, Chicagoland Pops Orchestra, and numerous chamber ensembles. He is also an alumnus of the Colts Drum & Bugle Corps, where he marched during the 2014 season.
Mr. Guthrie is passionate about inspiring young musicians and is committed to helping every student develop as both a musician and a leader.
